1. Using the Forum

1.1. How do I Register?

To post first you must register at PathLabTalk.

In order to fully utilize the abilities of this forum, we require that you register as a member.  Registration is free, and allows you to do the following:

  • Post new threads
  • Reply to other peoples' threads
  • Edit your posts
  • Receive email notification of replies to posts and threads you specify
  • Send private messages to other members
  • Enter events in the forum calendar

To register:

  • Click the "Sign Up" link at the top of any page
  • Select Premium Membership or No thanks...
  • Select a Display Name  this is visible to everyone
  • Enter your email address (only displayed to the site administrator)
  • Enter and confirm a password (not available to anyone  this is encrypted in the database)
  • Select your Gender
  • Type in a very brief description of your Occupation  this is only used to help weed out spammers
  • Answer the security question, complete the reCaptcha windows and agree to the Terms of Service

All accounts are verified manually by the site administrator.  This is usually done within one business day.

1.2. YouTube

Adding YouTube videos could not be easier.

Simply paste the URL of the YouTube video into your post and it will automatically embed.  If it does not embed, it is likely the video author has turned off automatic embedding.

1.3. How do I attach a file to a post?

This is the really easy part.

Images

To embed an image you can copy and paste an image from anywhere on the internet.  Simply paste it where you want it to display in your post.  You can also paste the link of an image and it will automatically embed.

If you are uploading it from your computer, you can drag it to the "Drag files to attach..." location at the bottom of the editor, or if you'd rather, click the "choose files..." link at the bottom of the editor.

Documents

1.4. How do I make a post?

The site has many forums for you to post in.
To make a post, follow these simple instructions.

  • Log in to forum
  • From the forum home page, click the title of the forum you would like to post in
  • Click the "Start New Topic" Icon
  • Enter a Title for your new post
  • In the larger Message window type whatever you would like. There is no limit to how much you can post here. (Well, theoretically there is, but you get the point)
  • When you are satisfied with the post, click the "Submit Topic" button

Your posts will contain plain text, but on occasion, you may want to emphasize certain words or phrases by making them (for example) bold or italic.

You may not use HTML code to produce these effects, we have disabled HTML code, and opted instead to use a WYSIWYG editor.  This is similar to a Word editor and your post will look exactly like it is as you create it.
